Intolerance increases in NI

Intolerance has increased in NI

Almost one in four people in Northern Ireland does not want a gay neighbour

In a survey by Northern Ireland’s Equality Commission 23 per cent of those questioned said that they would not want a LGBT person living next door to them.

This was in contrast to 14 per cent in 2005.

Twenty-three per cent also said that would not like to work alongside a gay, lesbian or bisexual colleague.

Other findings from the survey show that over half of those surveyed would not want a traveller as a neighbour, and 16 per cent would not like people with a mental illness living next door to them.
