Gay TV too smutty for Ofcom
Gay TV, which broadcasts in the 'adult' section of Sky and Virgin has been found 'In Breach' of Ofcom's guidelines after a viewer complained that one of its 'free-to-air' promotions, which are not encrypted like its main adult sex programming, was too explicit for its 10pm slot.
Their ruling said: "Ofcom noted that in this promotion some of the male presenters spoke to camera fully naked with their genitals in full view and on occasion in close up. Brief but non-explicit sequences of sexual activity, where genitals were frequently and clearly visible, were also shown and on occasions the genitals were handled. In addition, some explicit sexual language was used by the presenters."
Gay TV had said in response to Ofcom's request for comments about the broadcast that it accepted that the regulator did not discriminate regarding sexual orientation, but that
it had been established that it would be permitted to show male genitalia in homosexual promotional programming more frequently than would be permitted in equivalent heterosexual promotions.
As men do not have breasts, Gay TV said that it was therefore able to show male genitals more frequently in its promotions in order to compensate, as long as such shots were relatively brief and the organ in question not engorged. The language used was standard in all adult 'free-to-view' promotional programming, it said. However it accepted that there were two images which were more close-up than normal and were being touched by hand. It apologised for the inclusion of these images and said that staff had been instructed to take more care in the future.
In its ruling, Ofcom said that while it accepted that in promotional material "viewers of these channels might expect some depiction of such content" it would be more suitable for broadcast after 11pm, and that language such as "it's explicit sucking and fucking action...these boys are fresh and their cocks are throbbing to get some tight arse...cock after cock after cock giving and taking it until everyone blows their load" was also unacceptable for broadcast at 10pm.
