Radio 1's The Surgery to address coming out

Radio show looks at coming out
Radio 1's social awareness show The Surgery is to broadcast a special two-hour programme tackling the issue of coming out.
The Coming Out Special, at 10pm on Sunday September 6, will be taking emails, texts and calls from listeners seeking advice and support on all aspects of the subject, from how to tell family and friends to sexual health issues.
Gay presenter Aled Haydn Jones (also of the Chris Moyles Show) will be joined by Diva editor Jane Czyzselska and resident psychotherapist Doctor Aaron Ballick.
Haydn Jones said: "Coming out is the hardest step that a gay person goes through and it can feel very lonely and daunting. I hope that, by hearing advice from Doctor Aaron and Jane and sharing other listeners' experiences, we can help.
"We will talk about the right time to do it safely. As we know, the vast majority of cases go really well but when you are talking to a national audience you can't say 'it will be fine' because you always hear the stories where it didn't go so well.
"I hope we can expand it by the end of the show - obviously I haven't got much experience of lesbian issues or lesbian coming outs, which Jane can help with and I'd love to get onto transgender issues by the end of the show but that's not something you can plan, it depends on what people call up with, so we will see how it goes."
