Cher's son Chaz Bono to write memoir of sex change
Chaz (formerly Chastity), Bono, the son of Cher and Sonny Bono, has signed a book deal for the memoir of his gender reassignment, a process that began earlier this year.
Chastity Bono lived as a lesbian for twenty years and wrote about the experience of coming out to his mother in Family Outing, but in June it was revealed that he was in the early stages of transition from female to male.
TMZ reports that he has "a handsome, six-figure deal" for the memoir, which has the tentative title of Coming Clean, with a publishing date set for spring 2011.
Forty-year-old Bono is the only child of 60s pop duo Sonny and Cher, and is a civil rights activist as well as journalist, author and musician. In June, Cher made her first statement regarding Bono's decision to become a man.
"Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support," she told PEOPLE. "I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."
