Chinese discover fabled Swedish all-lesbian town (pop. 25,000)
Swedish tourist information organisations have been overwhelmed with enquires from millions of Chinese men about a town exclusively populated by 25,000 "sex-mad" lesbians, according to news.com.au.
Earlier this week, the Chinese news agency Xinhua and a Shanghai Media Group television programme reported on the town of Shakebao, or Chako Paul City, where the lesbians are guarded by a pair of blonde female sentries, and men risk being "beaten half to death" if they try to enter.
The town was reportedly founded in 1820 in the northern Swedish woods by a wealthy man-hating widow, leading many of the town's female residents to become lesbians "because they could not suppress their sexual needs", said Chinese news service Harbin News.
According to Xinhua, most of all-female population is employed in the forestry industry, with many sporting a "thick waist belt full of woodworking equipment", and women who decide to leave the town for carnal purposes are only permitted to re-enter if they agree to bathe and undertake several other measures. "Chako Paul's tourism industry is increasingly prosperous", it said.
The coverage by the Chinese media had caused the crippling of the country's internet providers by millions of men trying to find out how to get to the town, reported news.com.au.
Claes Bertilson, a spokesman for Sweden's Association of Local Authorities and Regions, was doubtful about the claims in the Chinese media about Chako Paul City: "I've never heard anything about it," he told The Local.
"At 25,000 residents, the town would be one of the largest in northern Sweden, and I find it hard to believe that you could keep something like that a secret for more than 150 years. I have no idea where something like this could have come from."
