Advertorial
True fans will go anywhere to follow their sport - even if it’s one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. You don’t need telling about the football you can find over there, but what about the excuse of a world-beating horse race, a rugby nailbiter or the climax to the biking season? GetMeIn.com is the place to look for great sports tickets deals abroad.
Paris
The prestigious Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe horse racing event takes place in Paris on 2 & 3 October. With a 4million Euro prize, the ‘Arc’ is the world’s second-richest turf race and Europe’s most prestigious and fashionable racing event, attracting the world’s best horses and jockeys to the historic Longchamp Racecourse on the banks of the river Seine. Apart from the Arc there are another 11 major flat races to see over the weekend. Spend your winnings in the legendary bars of Montmartre or the couture boutiques of the Rue de Rivoli. And don’t miss out the Moulin Rouge.
Valencia
Valencia, one of Spain’s sunniest cities, hosts the world-famous Valencia MotoGP race on 7th November at the Circuito de Valenciana, one of the most modern and exciting bike tracks in the world where it’s claimed that the 150,000 spectators can see virtually the whole circuit. The likes of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi will be riding, and as it’s the last fixture of the season you can be sure of some drama as final places are decided. Once the excitement has died down, toast the MotoGP season at some of Valencia’s finest bars or head to the nearby beach to wind down over a brilliant weekend.
Rome
Rugby in Rome will brighten even the dullest February - and when Ireland meet Italy at the Stadio Flaminio in the great RBS Six Nations contest on 5th February, it should be a great meeting of two nations that know how to party as hard as they play. Ireland, only just behind France in second place, look set to beat Italy, who currently sit at the bottom of the table - but 80 minutes is a long time in rugby. The option of authentic pizza, pasta, Italian wine and sumptuous ice cream afterwards makes this a very attractive late-winter break - though the die-hard fan could be torn by the prospect of Paris instead that evening for the France v Scotland fixture.
Barcelona
Two of the great football teams of the world, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, meet on 28th November in Barça’s spectacular Camp Nou home ground - a fixture known as ‘El Classico’. It’s one of many regular La Liga fixtures taking place at Camp Nou throughout the winter, where superstars of the current La Liga champion team include Lionel Messi, David Villa and Andres Iniesta. Any of them is a great excuse to visit one of the buzziest and most stylish of world cities. Party in the bars and restaurants of Spain’s most famous street, Las Ramblas, and do some culture by visiting the city’s uniquely stylish and surrealist architecture.
