G-A-Y saves Heaven in multi-million pound deal

"Having bought Heaven, Joseph will now be in a position to invest in and renovate the venue to accommodate the G-A-Y nights"

G-A-Y has bought gay clubbing giant Heaven in a multi-million pound sale.

Although rumours have been circulating for months, the deal has now been confirmed, and the partnership will bring two of the UK's most influential gay club brands together.

Had negotiations between the two failed, Heaven nightclub may have gone into receivership after almost thirty years in business. In order to make a successful bid for the venue, G-A-Y owner Jeremy Joseph and partners secured £500,000 in cash. Joseph said:

"I have literally put everything that G-A-Y has ever earned into this. I have taken the biggest risk to make this happen."

Joseph announced in May that G-A-Y would no longer be using the Astoria as a venue on Monday, Thursday and Friday nights, and would continue to run there on Saturdays until he had found a big enough act to finish with.

"I want to leave the Astoria on a high rather than watching the venue fall apart with no money being spent on it or guessing when the building is to be bulldozed."

Having bought Heaven, Joseph will now be in a position to invest in and renovate the venue to accommodate the G-A-Y nights. The legendary Saturday events, which in the past have played host to Christina Aguilera and Madonna, will return, as will the Friday night Camp Attack.

He will also try to retain some of the Heaven regulars by ensuring that resident DJs and bar staff remain with the venue.
