DV8 To Be Straight With You at the National Theatre

A controversial new show explores the role of fundamentalist religion in homophobia

"This is a really powerful exposé of the vile homophobia of fundamentalist religion"

To Be Straight With You examines the way fundamentalist religion and “murder music” promote homophobic hatred and violence.

Incorporating dance, text, documentary, animation and film in a multi-arts performance, the show is the creation of Lloyd Newson and the DV8 Physical Theatre group.

“This is a really powerful exposé of the vile homophobia of fundamentalist religion,” said gay human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, who helped gather evidence of homophobic victimisation for depiction in the performance.

“To Be Straight With You is a visual and emotional feast that tears aside the mask of tolerance to reveal the visceral homophobia of organised religion and of some of the world’s leading reggae, rap and ragga singers,” he continued.

Lloyd Newson of DV8 and an invited panel will be discussing the issues raised in DV8’s new production on 5th November at the National Theatre in London. The debate lastsfor one hours and tickets are £2.50 and £3.50.

To Be Straight With You runs at the  National from 29th October to 15th November. Tickets for the performance are £10, £20 and £30.
