Blackpool biggest and best yet
Blackpool Pride 2009
An all-star line-up will head up Blackpool Pride this year.
Eighties icon, Toyah, plus S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara, Hazell Dean and Andy Scott Lee will all be performing at the seaside town’s fourth annual Pride event.
A big name finale is also promised but Blackpool Pride’s organisers are keeping the name secret until nearer to the time.
Blackpool Pride is traditionally seen as the start of the Pride season, and the town has reportedly the fourth largest LGBT population in the UK.
The popularity of the event has grown enormously over the past three years, and a 10,000 strong crowd is expected to turn up for Blackpool Pride on the weekend of 16th and 17th May.
For the first time the event will be taking place in an enclosed area around Dickson Road, the heart of Blackpool’s gay village, with a massive stage featuring entertainers from around the UK.
The world-famous Golden Mile will also be closed off for the Pride Parade on Sunday 17th May.
Blackpool Pride weekend also coincides with this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and Blackpool will be celebrating with a special Eurovision Party featuring a set from three of the last decade’s contestants – Jessica Garlick, Nicki French and Scooch.
Entertainment organiser and Vice Chair, Mark Hurste, said: “This will undoubtedly be our biggest and best event yet with an all-celebrity line-up performing right in the heart of the gay village.
“Finishing with a Closing Ceremony on Sunday 17th May featuring the vocal talents of Daniel Fox and the Manchester Lesbian Gay Chorus together with a spectacular Firework Display from the rooftop of the Flamingo Nightclub.”
