Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters

Tales of the City is to hit Broadway – with music from the Scissor Sisters

The musical of the cult gay series of novels has the approval of author Armistead Maupin. It will be brought to the stage by the producers of the award-winning musical Avenue Q.

Providing the music and lyrics to the show will be Jake Shears, lead singer and songwriter of the Scissor Sisters, and fellow band member John Garden.

Tales of the City first began as a newspaper serial in the San Francisco Chronicle

Taking an affectionate look at gay (and straight) life and love in 1970s San Francisco, it rapidly gained a cult following.

It was published in book form in 1978 and was followed by six other books in the series, as well as two successful TV series starring Olympia Dukakis.

It was recently voted the best gay book of all time

Tales of the City, the musical, should be ready for the 2009/ 2010 Broadway season.
