Princess Diana one of the Gay Icons
Diana and Lily Savage will feature together in a London show this summer.
Entitled Gay Icons, the exhibition will feature photographs from the past 150 years of people important to gay life, regardless of their sexuality.
Ten well-known gay men and women were asked to nominate six individuals who they admired or who had influenced them.
In addition to Diana and Lily, the exhibition will include personalities as diverse as Nelson Mandela and Kenneth Williams, David Hockney and Alan Turing, the father of modern computing.
“Each of the selectors has had a rough time, and what they needed was people who inspired them to carry on,” said Sandi Toksvig who chaired the panel of selectors..
Other members of the panel were Sir Elton John, Sir Ian McKellen, tennis player, Billie Jean King, Labour peers Waheed Ali and Chris Smith, and writers Alan Hollinghurst, Jackie Kaye, and Sarah Waters.
The exhibition will take place at London’s National Portrait Gallery from 2nd July to 18th October. For more information visit www.npg.org.uk or call 020 7306 0055
