Frankie Howerd's partner has married their "son"
Dennis Heymer, 82, the partner and manager of the late comedian, has entered into a civil partnership with Chris Byrne, who first met the couple as a teenager and was regarded by them as an “adopted son”.
According to the Daily Mail, Byrne, now 42, decided to marry Heymer in order to inherit legally the £800,000 cottage the comedian left on his death in 1992.
Byrne, who acts as carer for Heymer, told the newspaper: “The civil ceremony protects us legally with the property that Frank left Dennis and with my inheritance.
“It’s not a romantic relationship, but it’s a caring one. I look after Dennis because he’s very frail now.”
Frankie Howerd was one of the UK’s most popular comedians for over thirty years, regularly appearing on TV and in films such as Carry On Doctor and Up Pompeii! Despite his camp image, he never publicly acknoweldged his homosexuality.
