Liverpool gay village delayed

A gay village for Liverpool?

A gay village for Liverpool?
Plans to create a gay village in Liverpool have been delayed
In January the council decided to permanently pedestrianise Eberle Street, anjd install hydraulic bollards at the end of Cumberland Street and Stanley Street to close the roads for four nights of the week
However, although agreement has been reached and the equipment has been purchased, the retractable bollards have still not been installed.
One reason for the delay is that councillors are considering whether to close the streets for all seven nights of the week, rather than the four currently proposed.
To do this, residents and local businesses need to be consulted again, and it appears that the bollards will not be erected until August.
The streets are in the heart of Liverpool’s entertainment district, which is home to some of the city’s most popular gay bars and clubs such as the Superstar Boudoir and the Lisbon.
It was hoped that closing the streets would both create a café culture and encourage the growth a gay village to rival the Canal Street area in Manchester.
