New exhibition, the Jack Freak Pictures, by the 'living sculptures' of British art

G&G: The Jack Freak Series
Has "marriage" mellowed Gilbert and George?
Gilbert and George's new exhibition, the Jack Freak Pictures, at White Cube's Mason's Yard and Hoxton Square galleries (from July 10), are, according to the writer Michael Bracewell "among the most iconic, philosophically astute and visually violent works that Gilbert and George have ever created." It would seem that old age (they are both now in their 60s) and their marriage (as George described it) at Bow register office last year have mellowed them not at all.
George, who always votes Conservative, told the Telegraph: "We admire Margaret Thatcher greatly. She did a lot for art. Socialism wants everyone to be equal. We want to be different. We're also fond of the Prince of Wales: he's a gentleman. The Jack Freak series deals with all aspects of Britishness as symbolised by the British flag; it means so many different things to so many. It brings out the best - and the worst - in people."
