"A great big musical disco party" to celebrate 40 years of gay rights advancement
By: John Howard

Milk in the Park - Saturday 15th August

Milk in the Park - London's new gay festival

Milk in the Park (Saturday August 15) is a new festival in the Vauxhall gay village intended as a celebration and marker of some of the milestones in gay rights over the last four decades: it's 40 years since the Stonewall riots and just over 30 since the death of Harvey Milk. Milk in the Park has been organised in association with Eagle London, which has been at the forefront of an ongoing campaign by the Metropolitan Police LGBT Hate Crime Forum to make the area safer through positive action and targeted campaigns.

The organisers intend Milk in the Park to be "a great big musical disco party", and is a collaboration between Eagle London's Horse Meat Disco (who will be hosting the main arena alongside cabaret performer Jonny Woo) and other Vauxhall nights Carpet Burn, Deep Inside and Tonker. A giant screen will be showing The Life and Times of Harvey Milk (the man whose achievements inspired this event) along with The Celluloid Closet and Paris is Burning. "Getting into the 2012 mood", Milk in the Park will also host the world's first Tranny Netball Tournament.
