The Bistrotheque Annual Drag Ball at the Royal Opera House
By: John Howard

Part talent contest, part car crash

The Bistrotheque Annual Drag Ball takes place this Sunday

It forms the finale to Jonny Woo's Ballo in Mascara, part of this year's Deloitte Ignite festival, and is being held at London’s Royal Opera House.

But B.A.D 3, as it's otherwise known, will be a show to rival anything the opera's seen for over-the-top hauteur and star power.

Described by the Independent on Sunday as "part catwalk show, part talent contest, part car crash", the categories include International Diva In A Leading Role (Throwing A Strop), London Fashionista At The Opera, and Pushy Mother With Kids At A Ballet Audition.

But there'll be fashion, fantasy and glitz on show everywhere, with contestants delivered to the runway by escalator after being given production-line hair and make-up jobs by experts backstage.

"The queens will be coming out in all their fabulous glory to the Bistrotheque Annual Ball," said the Independent, and as they will include Bourgeois and Maurice, Scottee, Dickie Beau, La John Joseph, Russella, Holestar, Fancy Chance, Dusty Limits, Timberlina and of course Jonny Woo, that's no exaggeration.
