EuroPride in Zuerich

Zuerich's gay scene is probably the liveliest in Europe

"The trendy district of Z¨ich-West has become synonymous with a party lover's paradise."

Switzerland’s largest city has had a vibrant gay scene for many years.

As well as a range of other gay events, EuroPride 2009 will be happening in Zürich next year. This will be the first time the event has taken place in Switzerland.

As well as gay bars and clubs, Zürich offers diverse gay-culture events such as Warmer Mai (“Warm May’”) with the gay-lesbian film festival Pink Apple. Zürich is also renowned for big gay parties, such as the Black and White Party, and, in high summer, the Follies au Lac, each of which attracts thousands of visitors to Zürich.

From 2nd May to 7th June, 2009, EuroPride will be taking place in Zürich for the first time. EuroPride is the largest and, socio-politically, the most important gay-lesbian festival in Europe, and a wide range of gay-lesbian events of cultural, political, scientific and sporting interest will be organised over a period of one month. The event is intended to appeal not only to gays and lesbians but to entertain the population of Zürich and Switzerland as a whole.

Gay bars and clubs such as Barfüsser, Cranberry, Pearl, Pigalle T&M and Labyrinth offer nightlife right through to the early hours of the morning. Find out when and where parties are taking place on www.gay.ch, which provides news and trends from the Swiss gay scene.

In Zürich, night birds will find plenty to do, whether behind the walls of the old city, in former factories, or in the open air. More than 500 cool, stylish bars, nightclubs and discotheques offer a great variety of entertainment.

When things gradually quieten down after business hours in the bustling Zürich Bahnhofstrasse (main street), the Niederdorf on the opposite side of the River Limmat is only just starting to come to life. Bars and restaurants are strung together here like pearls on a necklace.

After midnight, hit one of the city’s various nightclubs: Zürich has the highest density of nightclubs in Switzerland for late night revellers to enjoy.  The oldest club in the city of Zürich is called Mascotte. The Kongresshaus houses the club Adagio, which has a great party atmosphere thanks to its mix of dance classics, chart toppers, soul and funk as well as the best of vocal house.

In the city centre, the popular club Kaufleuten attracts fashion-conscious party people: with beats ranging from house to soul, salsa, meringue and over-30s parties. And in Saint Germain in Bahnhofstrasse, Paris Hilton and P.  Diddy are some of the VIP guests.

The trendy district of Zürich-West has become synonymous with a party lover’s paradise. Where industrial machines were once operated, the former factory buildings are now full of young, urban socialites. Drop in at the Toni Molkerei, a one-time milk factory, or dance to the very best of electronic music at the Rohstofflager. Every weekend, thousands of people converge on Zürich-West to party like there’s no tomorrow.
