Bisexuality gene discovered?

Is bisexuality down to ‘hyper-heterosexual’ family members?

"There is a definite genetic factor in male and female attraction to men, which neuroscientist Dr Simon LeVay has labelled 'hyper-heterosexuality'."

Research by academics at the University of Padua, Italy have found a potential link between bisexual men and so-called 'hyper-heterosexual' female family members.

The university surveyed a total of 239 men, asking questions about families and sexual experiences. Findings showed that the female relatives of gay men commonly have more children which implies that genes on the X chromosome are responsible.

Dr Andrea Camperio Ciani, who led the research stressed that the findings do not prove or disprove the existence of the so-called ‘gay gene’. But went on to say that there is a definite genetic factor in male and female attraction to men, which neuroscientist Dr Simon LeVay has labelled 'hyper-heterosexuality'.

Dr Camperio Ciani elaborated on his theory to The New Scientist:

'We understand that the genetic component has to interact with something to produce different phenotypes.

'Genetics is not determining the sexual orientation, it's only influencing it.'

Dr Camperio Ciani is a specialist in the study of sexual behaviour and sexual strategies in primates and humans, as well as the victims of sex crimes.
