Your Homes Newcastle is one of the largest social housing providers in the North-East
It manages 30 000 council homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council.
Since opening for business in 2004 it has transformed council homes across the city with new doors, kitchens and much more, and is on target to bring all homes up to the Government’s Decent Homes standard by 2012.
But it’s not just about managing tenancies and repairing houses, as YHN is being pro-active in tackling some of the big issues facing communities in Newcastle.
Specialist staff are on hand to help customers make the right financial choices, which is helping prevent homelessness and improving the lives of customers as a result.
Similarly, its ‘Skills to work’ strategy is making it easier for tenants to access training and employment opportunities.
It’s not all about advice though –YHN also has a dedicated housing anti-social behaviour enforcement team which is taking clear steps to deal with nuisance and harassment, working in partnership with the ARCH incident centre to take action whenever racist or homophobic incidents are reported.
To deliver services effectively, YHN recognises the different needs of customers and staff and is working hard to mainstream equality and diversity activities and achieve a workforce that is representative of the community it serves.
YHN employs 850 people in Newcastle and is proud to be a Stonewall Top 100 Employer in 2010.
