Road to Utopia

Mitsubishi Lancer
When it comes to finding an everyday practical four-door saloon with insane performance and the best handling you can get, thereââ¬â¢s only one car
"No matter what you ask the EVO to do it delivers "
The EVO – legend, and considered by some to be one of the best performance cars in the world ever – is one of my greatest loves when it comes to cars.
I can’t and won’t fault it. It’s got great build quality and is second to none when it comes to reliability.
It’s just in a class of its own: 0-62mph in under four eye-watering seconds and a handling that will see you glued to the road at just about any speed in any condition.
This means that no matter what you ask the EVO to do it delivers – and then slaps you round the face and shouts, “Is that all you’ve got?”, and asks for more.
The newest EVO has a few more performance and handling tweaks over the EVO (eight) it replaces, but, for those fans out there overall not much has changed on the new one.
It’s just as loud, loutish and in your face as every other Evolution that’s been before; it’s still deafening on long motorway journeys, and, after two hours down the M1, you’ll still wish you’d come in your boyfriend’s BMW.
Every cute bloke within a mile’s radius will be checking you out (well, the car but it’s the same thing), and every lad with a camera phone will take your picture – which won’t be happening in the aforementioned BMW.
So it’s your choice: do you go for the quiet, reserved and considerably blander option of something not out of place in the company fleet? Or do you buy the loudest hell cat on the road?
I know where my money’s going…
