Gay News: MP allegedly made homophobic comments about Sol Campbell.
By: Nigel Robinson

Pound denies making homophobic comments

Labour MP accused of homophobic taunts at football match.

Stephen Pound, Labour MP for Ealing North, allegedly made the comments in the executive box when his football team, Fulham, lost a Premier League match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

He is alleged to have called Arsenal defender Sol Campbell “a big f***ing fairy”.

He then went on to shout at the referee, “What game are you at, you f***ing w**ker?” and made an offensive gesture.

Pound, who was re-elected to Parliament in the recent General Election, has a good voting record on gay rights.

He has admitted that he insulted the referee, but denied making any homophobic comments about Campbell.

He told the Daily Mail:

“I am thoroughly ashamed of myself. I didn’t call Sol Campbell any names — I would never have done that.

“But I did insult the referee because Sol Campbell brought down our striker in the penalty box, but a penalty wasn’t given.”

Fulham were beaten 4 – 0 by Arsenal.
