Gay News: Gay Polish football fans have called for separate seating for gay fans during the forthcoming Euro 2012.

Gay fans "encountered unpleasantness"

Call for separate gay areas in Euro 2012

25 February 2012

The group, Teczowa Trybuna 2012, or Rainbow Stand 2012, describes itself as Poland’s first group of gay football fans.

They claim that gay supporters need to be segregated to protect them from homophobic behaviour from straight fans, during the forthcoming Euro 2012 tournament to be held in Poland and the Ukraine.

A statement on their website reads: “Unfortunately, during trips to matches in Poland, we often encountered unpleasantness, harassment and violence from the “real” fans.”

However, their demands have been criticised by other gay groups, who argue that separate seating would just draw attention to the gay and lesbian supporters and put them at even more risk of homophobic violence.
