Ford Pride London breaks down prejudice in football
By: Nigel Robinson

The Ford Pride London Football Tournament returns to London to combat prejudice in football

"As true fans we believe football should be an inclusive sport where ability and enjoyment of the game should be the only relevant selection criteria"

Following the success of last year’s first-ever major LGBT and LGBT-friendly tournament, Ford, which sponsors the UEFA Champions League, sees the Tournament as an opportunity to help counter some of the negative attitudes surrounding football.

The Ford name and its sixteen-year partnership with UEFA will create a positive atmosphere for gay, lesbian and trans people, particularly in the football world.

This year’s Tournament takes place in London on Saturday 28 June and welcomes six-a-side men’s and women’s teams from around the country. To sign up, or for more details, contact football@pridelondon.org or visit the website at www.fordpridelondonfootball.org

The winning team will be presented with the Trophy Cup on the Main Stage in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 5 July 2008, and the runners-up will also receive trophies.

"Ford's commitment to football is second to none,” says Mark Ovenden, Marketing Director of Ford Britain, “and as true fans we believe that it should be an inclusive sport where ability and enjoyment of the game are the only relevant selection criteria at whatever level players participate.”
