Stonewall brings home gold

Stonewall
Stonewall Football Club, the UKââ¬â¢s longest-running and most successful gay football team, has won the EuroGames 2008 in Barcelona.
The team went through the tournament without a single defeat, fighting off opposition from teams from Belgium, Italy and France, before meeting their old rivals, Cologne, in the final. The German team was defeated 2 – 0 and proved no match to Stonewall’s hard-working team performance.
The EuroGames featured twenty-seven teams from across Europe. The teams that did not qualify from their group stages played out for the recreational competition, which was won by the Stonewall FC reserve team, beating Belgium on penalties.
Stonewall Club Captain, Darren Lewis said: “The tournament was a great success and another well deserved victory for Stonewall. The standard of football was high and our squad worked hard with a great spirit to bring home gold”.
