Pride Life Run Victoria Park

A record number of racers completed the London Pride Run on Saturday 16th August

The annual ten-kilometre (6.2 miles) run in East London’s Victoria Park saw 577 runners crossing the line, up from 457 finishers in 2007.

The event, now in its fifth year, is organised by London Frontrunners, Britain’s largest lesbian and gay running club. Backed by Merrill Lynch, the £3,000 raised from the event will go to support the work of Stonewall to support equality and diversity.

Andy Bell, lead singer with pop band Erasure, set the runners off at 11am and presented the prizes at the finish.

Bell said: “It’s great to be supporting this race because it’s a chance for everyone to get out and run together, and also to raise money for a really worthwhile cause.”

Ben Moreau of Aldershot, Farnham & District Athletic Club won the race with a finish time of 31 minutes 39 seconds. The first woman past the finishing line was Jenny Fowler from Medway & Maidstone Athletic Club at 38 minutes 19 seconds.

Runner Andy Abbots said: “The run was a great day out, my friends and family are here supporting me. I’m exhausted but pleased to come away with a personal best time.”
