Euro 2008 confronts homophobia

The tournament will be will be hosted by Switzerland and Austria as no UK home nationals qualified this year. Vienna in particular, will the host of 3 home games; two quarter finals, a semi-final and the final.
The Vienna based organization, QWIEN has announced a competition for the poster design. The winning poster from this Europe-wide competition will not only be displayed at the tournament but will also remain displayed until Vienna’s Rainbow Parade on July 12.
The tournament, scheduled from June 7 to 29, will showcase 50 designs at a venue in the city.
"According to statistics five percent of the total population is gay," QWIEN said in a statement on their website.
"As a result therefore, of the 500 professional players in the Austrian football league, 25 should be gay professional kickers.
However not one gay professional player in Austria openly admits their homosexuality.

Qwien Kultur will be accepting poster submissions until the end of May when a jury will choose the top 50 designs which will be exhibited during the tournament. From that point a jury of experts will select the best three.
