Personal life and separation aside, Pink continues to retain her position as a controversial lady of pop. Recently blasting the royal family for their
"I have a bulldog called Elvis, who is actually gay. He only interacts with gay men! "
You once said you’re ‘trisexual’. Explain yourself.
I’ll try anything once!
Is there anything left to try?
Oh, there’s always something, I’m totally open to new experiences. Although compared to how I used to be, I’m pretty mellow these days.
Did you always have such a positive, ‘try anything’ attitude?
As a child I was screwed up, lost and unhappy. My best friend was an 85 year-old woman who lived across the street. But I always knew I wanted to sing. I would tell my first grade teachers, “Homework? What? I'm a rock star!” Seriously, I had it in my mind and that's why I fought with my parents so much because I was 30 by the time I was ten. I was ready to go, like, “Come on. Put me onstage. Where's Star Search? What's going on?” And it couldn't happen fast enough.
You’re still very actively involved with PETA [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals] aren’t you?
Most of my energy goes on working with PETA. I’m certainly not afraid to speak my mind. I just want to inform people, and I like everything they do. Some people are just like, “Oh, they’re just sensationalists,” but I’m like, “You know what, they get things done!” I have certain boundaries, but honestly, when it comes to helping animals – and it may sound like a corny B movie - I would do anything. They can’t speak for themselves.
Do you have any pets of your own?
I have a bulldog called Elvis, who is actually gay. He only interacts with gay men!
Is your work with PETA informed by the fact that you always say what you think, at all costs?
Everyone is very good at being diplomatic and I’m not. I’ve never learned that. My dad’s been trying to teach me for 22 years and it just doesn’t work with me. I tend to piss off a lot of people, but that’s what happens. The truth hurts, you know. That’s what happens when you’re honest and you just have to take the good things with the bad. But I always make up for it.
Is that ‘honest’ image the one you like to be portrayed to fans?
As far as image goes I don't have one. I'm just a weird kid. I don't want to be formatted in a box, I don't want to be classified. I don't want to be a puppet where other people make decisions for my career. I don't want be boring and normal.
You’re honesty about your sexuality is probably what sets you aside as a role model for young fans.
I'm not perfect so I'm probably not the safest person to model after but I don't lie so at least everything I do is honest.
Pink’s latest album, Funhouse, is due for release on 27th October.
