Emma Bunton

PrideLife chats to Emma Bunton

"I do love getting the legs out if they're very nice and bronzed"

Spice Girl, new mum, Dancing on Ice judge, actress, telly presenter, all-round nice girl, multi-millionaire. Emma Bunton has lived a whole load of life for a 34-year-old. Jealous much?

You’re looking pretty darn hot on Dancing on Ice – you’re getting sexier with age!

Well I’d like to think so, but I don’t know! But I think I’ve definitely become more confident with age and I love dressing up and I love my Gucci heels!

Do you mind exposing flesh?

Absolutely not. Especially the breast area! I’m one of those people that if I’m going to get the legs out I’ll cover the chest area, and if I’m getting the chest out I’ll cover the legs.

We’ve always thought of you as a legs girl…

I do love getting the legs out, if they’re very nice and bronzed!

So it was a wee while back, but your turn in Absolutely Fabulous was pretty darn good – and great for your gay credentials!

Ab Fab was so much fun! I was very excited. Jennifer is so hilarious. I was so nervous: to sit around a table reading a script with June Whitfield and Jane Horrocks it was just like, holy shit! When I was rehearsing I would just do it quietly and then when we filmed, I would really do it. Especially on that bit, “If you think I’m going to take a load of shit!” and I loved it. And everyone, even Jennifer was a bit, “Shit, she really went for it!”

I know you were playing yourself, but was it a heightened version?

Yeah, I think so. The whole audience, when I said “shit”, gasped. But I do swear quite a bit, actually. But it was really good fun.

And what about another solo album?

Not right now. It takes a lot of work and promotion and right now I want to spend as much time as possible with my little boy, Beau.

When you look back at the Spice days, how does that make you feel?

It was so mad and I was having the best fun I’ve ever had but I was so young, but I’ve learnt a lot. It definitely gave me a stepping stone, and I’m still learning. I think that’s a good thing.

And what about those Spice Girls, The Musical rumours?

Well, nothing’s confirmed! We all saw each other at Christmas and we’re honestly good friends, so who knows!

How do you deal with the paparazzi side of things?

I’m one of those people, I know it’s going to happen so I just make sure I’ve got my gloss on. (laughs)

Is there a bad shot of you? One you never want to see again?

There’s one of me with my eyes closed. Just blinking. If I’m going out for a drink I have to be able to walk out and be in control - and then I’ll go home and have a drink! But that’s my main thing. I’m a bit controlled like that.

Have you ever had a row with another celebrity?

A row? No, I don’t think I have, actually. Don’t think so. With a Spice Girl, God, probably. We have bickering like normal girls but… I remember once we were in a studio and I fell asleep and I did get into a bit of trouble about that. They were like, “Emma, we really need to talk to you about this,” and I was like, “God, I only fell asleep for five minutes.” It was just the silly things.

Emma is currently a judge on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice
