Bonnie Tyler for Eurovision
Bonnie Tyler will represent the UK in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Tyler said that she was "truly honoured and delighted" to be representing the UK in front of a 120 million TV audience in Malmö, Sweden, on 18 May.
"I promise to give this everything I've got for the UK," she said in a statement.
Tyler was one of the UK's biggest stars in the 1980s with a string of hits including Lost in France, Holding Out for a Hero, and the iconic Total Eclipse of the Heart, and still retains a huge following in Europe.
"Bonnie Tyler is truly a global superstar with a fantastic voice," said Katie Taylor, the BBC's Controller of Entertainment and Events.
"We are delighted she will be flying the flag for the UK in Malmö."
Tyler will perform the song Believe in Me, which has been written by British songwriters Lauren Christy and Christopher Braide together with American songwriter Desmond Child.
Child also wrote the hits Livin' la Vida Loca and She Bangs for Ricky Martin.
The UK last won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 with Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves.
Last year's entry, Love Will Set You Free performed by Englebert Humperdink, came second from last.
