Brookside lesbian kiss makes TV's most memorable list

The lesbian kiss between characters Beth Jordache and Margaret Clemence has been voted TV's seventh most memorable moment in a survey organised by UKTV.

The kiss, which was controversially shown before the TV watershed, drew in 9 million viewers when it aired in 1994.

Viewers voted Colin Firth as Mister Darcy emerging from the lake in his wet shirt in 1995's Pride and Prejudice as the most memorable TV moment of all.

Other moments in the top ten include Dirty Den serving Angie her divorce papers in EastEnders in 1986, and from 2010 the Coronation Street train crash, and David Tennant's regeneration into Matt Smith in Doctor Who.
