Jaguar E-Type convertible

Something for the weekend?
By :  Rich Tuckwell

Top Gayer's motoring guru casts his eye over the prestige car-hire market for those looking to inject a little luxury into their lives.

"So how much will this gorgeous slice of sexiness cost you for a weekend, have you sat down?"

1973 Jaguar E-Type convertible

Few cars in history have the iconic image of the E-Type Jaguar, beautiful lines, strong performance and a quintessential British-ness made the E-Type not only a Hollywood superstar, but also gave those that drove it a certain air of gorgeousness. Debuting at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, E-Type became an instant success due to its great handling, looks and affordability, making it the must-have car of the 60’s.

It doesn’t matter if you rival Alan Carr for campness or if you were the voted ‘girl most likely to become a lumberjack’ at school, the E-Type exudes such a sophisticated class that to onlookers you’re judged as A-list. Thanks to ‘Great Escape Cars’ you can get your sticky mitts on an original 1973 Jaguar E Type Series 3 V12 convertible with the classic 5.3L engine, for a weekend. How much will this 60’s fabulousness set you back? A very reasonable £560 with unlimited mileage, for an extra £13 Great Escapes will pack you a romantic picnic basket for 2, so you really experience a 60’s weekend away.

To find out more about Great Escapes cars (and there’s a lot of very beautiful classic cars in the collection) just go to www.greatescapecars.com or call 01527 893 733.

2007 Lamborghini Gallardo (pronounced Guy-ar-doe) Roadster
Jumping from classic British sports car to Italian super car is as quick as a disco queen’s attention span, thanks to Bespokes supercar hire. The 520bhp Gallardo’s 5.3L V10 engine is capable of propelling one of the most desirable supercars in the world from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds. Mind blowing acceleration and stunning looks coupled with handling that is considered as second to none isn’t the only string to the baby Lambo’s bow. It’s actually very capable round town and at £144,000 new, town is really where you want to be seen driving it.

So how much will this gorgeous slice of sexiness cost you for a weekend, have you sat down? £2,372 is how much! Now I know that that seems extortionately expensive, however you have to keep in mind that this is a true Italian supercar. Yes two and a half grand isn’t cheap but that does include a 30% discount for our readers, mileage of up to 500 miles, delivery and collection, oh yes it also includes one other thing… the ability to spend a weekend driving a car you will never forget. For more information on hiring the Gallardo visit www.bespokes.co.uk or call 0207 833 8000, ask to speak to Lexi and don’t forget to say that Rich from Top Gayer sent you to get that 30% discount.

4X44U?
Not everyone’s into supercar performance or can psychically get into one. You may also be one of those people that would rather be looking in truckers eyes rather than at their wheel nuts.
Enter stage left a Footballers wives 4x4 du jour, the Range Rover Sport. More capable of scaling rough terrain than a Himalayan goat and more butch than a Tom of Finland clone, this is a serious off-roader regardless of its Prada-esque designer image. With beautiful styling and sublime leather interior the supercharged sport is pure indulgence.

I’ve been speaking to the lovely Zoe at Bluechip Cars and within their luxury fleet to hire is the superb Supercharged Range Rover Sport. This truly gorgeous top-end motor has a 390bhp 4.2L V8 supercharged petrol engine giving a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds, ride quality and comfort that is simply unrivalled and enough gadgets to make James Bond jealous. Now all that power combined with prestige luxury will cost you just a mere £555 (including a Top Gayer discount) for a 72hr weekend.

To book BlueChips Supercharged Range Rover either go to www.bluechipcars.co.uk or call 0207 278 7833, don’t forget to quote Pride Life or Top Gayer to get your 25% discount on hiring it during October and November.

Totally TT
The TT has been a gay icon since its launch in 1999, hairdressers and cabin crew couldn’t place their orders quick enough and I doubt Audi could believe its luck.   In 2006 Audi took the dicey move of replacing the ever popular TT with a brand new model. Sleeker, faster, sexier and with way better handling than the old model the new TT proved even more popular with Audi struggling to build them quick enough to meet the demand. Then along came the replacement roadster model, bucking the trend of hard top convertibles Audi stuck with a soft top and sure enough they struck gold for a third time.

The 2L TFSI 200bhp turbo model costs a smidge under 30k, handles well and when coupled with Audi’s amazing S-Tronic Automatic gearbox provides outstanding performance, 0-62mph taking just 6.4 seconds. The TT roadster is my favourite small two seater drop top because it’s just so much fun to drive. So how much will it cost for you to hire one for the weekend? Guy Salmon Prestige Rental hire the 2L S-Tronic model I’m talking about above for £524, which includes delivery / collection, unlimited mileage, Fully comp insurance. Hire runs from the 12noon on the Friday till 12noon on the Monday. If you fancy playing in a TT Roadster for a weekend call 0871 384 2600 and speak to the team, make sure you ask for a discount on the price as it’s up to the individual agent to dish out cost savings.
