Wedding will be in Swedish airspace

Gay News: Love is in the air as SAS Scandinavian Airlines hopes to host the world's first same-sex marriage in the air
By :  Nigel Robinson

Mile high gay marriage

They have launched a competition to find a lucky couple who will get married on an Airbus A340 between Stockholm and New York on 6 December this year

Couples can create a profile and presentation of themselves at www.flysas.com/love, which others can then vote on.

The couple with the most votes will then marry in what is believed to be the first same-sex wedding on board a commercial flight.

To celebrate the occasion, SAS will turn a part of its Stockholm airport lounge into a wedding lounge and one of the Business Class cabins onboard their Airbus on December 6 will be made into an exclusive wedding cabin.

The marriage will take place in Swedish airspace where gay marriage is legal.

Robin Kamark of SAS said: “Airlines, including SAS, have organised weddings onboard flights for decades, but we would be the first to organise a same-sex wedding in the air.

“SAS is the national airline of three of the world’s most liberal and progressive countries in the world, especially when it comes to LGBT rights, so we feel this is a natural celebration of love.”
