Obama may urge Court to overturn gay marriage ban
The Obama administration is believed to be considering asking the Supreme Court to overturn California's ban on same-sex marriage.
The administration has until the end of the month to file a "friend-of-the-court" brief on Proposition 8 which states that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
An administration brief by itself would not sway the Court, but it is believed that the President's opinion would carry some weight with the judges' decision whether or not to uphold the bill.
In his inaugural address in January Obama became the first US President in history to come out in support of gay rights.
