It is the UK’s second city but there’s nothing second-rate about Birmingham Pride. With over 70,000 gay and lesbian tourists expected at the annual event, it’s quite simply the biggest gay festival in the Midlands and the largest free LGBT two-day event in the UK.
Hitting the main stage will be the fabulous Cheeky Girls, along with Norma Lewis, Kelly Wilde, Ryan Jagger, the Sheilas and Madonna tribute act Melissa Totten. And with the Eurovision Song Contest Final being held on Saturday evening, don’t be surprised if things don’t take a camp turn somewhere along the line!
There will also be a Pride parade through the city centre, setting off from Victoria Square and heading towards the city’s gay village, with lots of colourful floats celebrating this year’s theme of Equality Over The Decades. The area around Hurst Street will be packed with cabaret and comedy marquees, featuring the likes of Sandra and the Boy George Experience, together with market and community stalls, a village green with chill-out and family areas, and fairground rides and dance arenas.
